A student emailed me to ask how a paper about
"green jobs" might look, might be structured,
might be "about." So I replied, having
just read
this blog .

Green jobs:
Maybe the way to approach this topic is to be
creative in the following way:
Articulate how Marx and Durkheim and Weber might
see the topic of Green Jobs
Then look at the language – the emphasis, the
priorities, the examples – used by the
candidates about same. See if there
is any “fit”. The purpose would not to be to
“call” one or the other of them names, e.g.,
“she’s a Marxist” or “he’s a Marxist”, but,
rather, to help expand the context of green job
proposals.
Another way to put it would be to use all 6 ways
of talking (Marx, Durkheim, Weber, Clinton,
Obama, McCain) to begin to fill in a picture of
what is meant by
“Green Jobs”
