EOS Rule #1:
Form the
possessive singular of nouns by adding s.
Sociology's mandate is far and wide: Mausss idea of
reciprocity, Durkheims idea organic solidarity, the
cheerful robots of C. Wright Mills--of this and more
sociology is made. Bitches stereotypes and the
tablets of Moses can also be considered suitable subject
matter for sociology. Sociology has its work cut out
for it because its everywhere.
EOS Rule #2:
in a series
of three or more terms with a single conjunction, use a
comma after each term except the last.
Age, sex, and race are common cuts made by a
sociologist. Sociologists also study hierarchies of
religion, power, and status. But sociologists also do
ethnographies.
One sociology student entered the cafeteria for some
ethnography. She looked at the men at the table, sized
them up, and sat down with her tray next to the kindest
looking one. He smiled, the middle one snorted, and the
last one gazed at the television.
If our three founding fathers were a law firm, they
would be: Marx, Durkheim, and Weber.
Sociology stretches from the macro to the micro; it
contemplates social cause and effect; and it tries to
keep values outeven as they rush back in.
EOS Rule #3: enclose parenthetical comments between
commas.
Sociology, though it is called a social science, rests
heavily on the sociologist's emotional and political
leanings. Weber, the third of the three founding
fathers, did not feel we ever could be objective -- in
part because we study subjectivity. Hence sociology
ought, if it is to remain honest, to put its values up
front so that the reader might use them as a guide
through the facts and concepts sociology creates.
EOS Rule #4:
Place a comma before a conjunction
introducing an independent clause.
In sociology we try to be objective, but we realize this
is an impossible goal. Sociology is captured in and by
emotions, values, and visions, but still we try to
deliver facts as they emerge and not as they support our
wishes. Sociology, then, is a science, but it is a
science of subjectivity.
Patrick Henry: I know not what course others
may take; but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death!
EOS Rule #5:
Do not join independent clauses by a
comma.
The
term sociology was first used in 1780; however, in 1838
the word was later used by Auguste Comte. Auguste Comte
was a French thinker; he was one of the founders of
sociology. He married Caroline Massin; unfortunately, he
divorced in 1842. Comtes work was skeptically viewed;
individuals perceived he named himself the Pope of
Positivism. He died in 1857; he is buried at Cimetire
du
Pre Lachaise.
EOS Rule #6:
Do not break sentences in two.
Learning from different cultures, sociology gives us an
opportunity to expand our mind. Because sociology is
everywhere, we utilized it everyday. Utilizing sociology
helps us learn from one another, in turn creating a
better society.
EOS Rule #7:
A participial phrase at the beginning of a sentence must
refer to the grammatical subject.
Upon arrival as a new student at CSULA, the woman found
that sociology is a study of human social behavior.
Without help from an advisor, she concluded that
sociology is concerned with different types of groups.
Becoming wiser to how sociology works, she realized
human behavior is shaped by social factors.
Rule#8. Use a dash to set off an abrupt
break or interruption and to announce a long appositive
or summary.

there is no peace."
Durkheim believed

the verb.

None was right.
Rule #10. Use the proper case of pronoun.
When Jessica and I started college, we had no idea
what field we wanted to get into. We briefly had an
interest in Psychology, Political Science, and even
Engineering, but none of those choices seemed exciting until a counselor recommended Sociology,
a field that focuses on social behaviors,
attitudes and actions. We immediately started taking
Sociology classes and began understanding how humans
shape society and are the cause of corruption.
Gender and race are
abstractions, yet they are powerful, concrete influences in
everyones lives.
My

communism.

The typical idea
of fun for most American children in todays society
consists of chatting online, searching music videos
on Youtube, and playing video games rather than
reading, bike riding, or drawing.

Rule#13-
Omit needless words. Write some Sociology
with some typical needless words and then cross
them out.
C.Wright Mills says that what occurs in an individual's
life is to be related to the social context. According to C. Wright
Mills, what occurs in any one individual's life is
interrelated with society as a whole.

Rule # 13

effects, people spend less money. Dining out is
a rarity but make-up is a must.

EOS Rule #18:
